I did not show normal daily pictures from this camera, that readers of the blog could judge those advantages which can give the similar camera and I didn’t describe its restriction – where it is better to use the reflex or non-reflex camera.

I can tell with confidence that there are only two things which you potentially can see in the camera:
— detailing of a picture (the sensor of the camera and a lens influence on this)
— a bokeh with small DOF and beautiful blur of a background (the lens worth Schneider Kreuznach AF 80/2.8 LS D. It is super-sharp even on an open diaphragm.)
All remaining (a plot as DOF “lays down”, a foreshortening and colors) depends on the photographer.
So, there are some snaps.
The majority of frames were shooted on an open diaphragm of F2.8. All scenes are “from hands”, without tripod.




Impressions of operation with the camera Mamiya DF + and a digital back Leaf Credo 40
First it is necessary to consider that this system is modular since the camera and a digital back are self-contained units. Therefore it is necessary to remember that everyone needs to charge accumulators before walk and accurately join them that there was a contact.
Most frequent “problems” are storedb and battdb. I.e. if the back isn’t switched on or it has no contact with the camera or the battery is discharged.
The camera has possibility of operation with the central lock to 1/1600sek. I.e. an exposure of synchronization with flash-out is 1/1600 too. It is big plus if you work outdoors. You can regulate illuminance of a background, and a diaphragm — light from flash-out.
On 35mm cameras the value of synchronization with flash-out seldom exceeds 1/250sek.
The central lock works quite noisy, but it doesn’t disturb me at all, even the pleasant impression that you work with pure mechanics is made. On the other hand it is necessary to consider that a central lock is not so long-lasting, as focal. So if you shoot in the mode “M”, you have opportunity to set in the camera “Use Only a Focal Lock”. Focal lock is silent and fast (the shortest exposure is 1/4000sek).
The camera is weighty also doesn’t assume that you will shoot the reporting for a long time. Even at me after a long torsion of the camera in a hand, I was tired. Similar cameras give very high image quality therefore it makes sense to think of a shooting plot in advance. As you can see on my pictures it is possible to shoot anything, including children.
If you think that with such camera it is possible to take only a production photo, you are mistaken. It is possible to shoot a lot of things, even a bird.


I had the equivalent 50mm lens on 35mm to the camera (crop 1.3 — 50*1.3=65mm is equivalent on a point of view) so for shooting of the wild nature it isn’t really convenient. But nevertheless, as you can see, I photographed the seagull which was flying by over the head without effort.
By the way, about high-speed shooting. There is a very slow and not really exact autofocus at the camera . So I would recommend to use the view-finder, which is quite big on Mamiya DF + . It was pleasant to be focused “approximately” .
The auto-focus though is not fast, but isn’t worse than the same auto-focus at the Canon 5D Mark II on tenacity. Only Mamiya DF + have an infrared illumination of object shooting — big plus when focusing in the twilight.
Now about a digital back of Leaf Credo 40. That surprises me most of all, so it is installation of such faded screen on such good and expensive system. Even on normal 35mm the cameras Canon LDC the screen is much brighter and more contrasting. I.e. it is possible to look at a picture, but to evaluate the turned-out colors is hard.
With sharpness of a picture on the contrary, everything is good. The perhaps strong increase is possible and without special time delays it is possible to examine the increased fragment and to understand whether you got where wanted or not. I repent, I was lazy and not always looked at it. Therefore in some pictures there are misses which happened not through my fault, and because of an auto-focus which aims where wants. Fall in love with manual focus.
Control of a digital back is very simple — even the child will understand how to use it and I already wrote about it.

About what didn’t write, so it about noise. On an average format it wasn’t accepted to raise ISO until now, as far as I understand, because of the CCD technology used in a sensor. Earlier these manufacturing techniques of digital arrays on the contrary provided smaller noise, than CMOS which nowadays is everywhere in 35mm digital cameras, but now CMOS strongly overtakes CCD on a ratio Signal/noise.
For a digital back of Leaf Credo 40 I consider threshold ISO 400 value. With this ISO value the native Capture One RAW converter is still quite acceptable ( not strongly reducing detailing of a picture).

About color. The one characteristics of photo-cameras on which average cameras surely exceed 35mm digital cameras is color rendition accuracy. But there is also a tar spoon. At a digital back of Leaf Credo 40 there is quite strange automatic white balance. Earlier I didn’t know problems when I was outside to shoot a landscape and architecture with the reflex camera from Canon.
And when I began to shoot landscapes by means of the camera Mamiya DF + and a digital back of Leaf Credo 40 I understood that afterwards I won’t be able to deliver the correct balance, and the camera puts almost always incorrect (I think, skilled photographers will experience it on my examples). To tell precisely, what color of the building on a decline and what color has snow in a shadow, appeared to be a complex challenge.
So it is desirable to use “a gray map” in outdoors photographing.

And now about the pleasant. Such cameras are bought for the sake of high detailing of a picture and the camera Mamiya DF + with a digital back of Leaf Credo 40 provides it. In this case it is impossible to forget about a lens. Tremendous Schneider Kreuznach AF 80/2.8 LS D which is uncompromisingly sharp even on F2.8 open diaphragm. On 35mm the close characteristics can give out to system only the best Zeiss lenses.
It is possible and necessary to use it for creation of masterpieces. It is only possible to dream of the city views shooted with such detailing. The portrait made on Mamiya DF + with a digital back of Leaf Credo 40 wants to be printed directly in a big format and to hang up on a wall.
Even it is difficult for me to provide what is created on 80 Mpx digital backs. I hope I will have the opportunity to try it.


The camera Mamiya DF + with a digital back of Leaf Credo 40 is excellent system, despite small minuses in the form of its weight and the faded screen. It makes sense to buy it to the keen amateur photographer wishing to have the thin tool for creation of a masterpiece.
It would be healthy if there were no minuses, but we use that exists in the real world.
I won’t begin to discuss its cost. It doesn’t belong to quality of the equipment. People who want it to buy it can find such method.
The important point is even expensive and high-quality camera won’t do good pictures instead of you. Pictures of high detailing don’t become automatically beautiful and interesting. It already care of the photographer is always only the instrument of reality registration created by the photographer.
